Research on the development of social interactions has shown how caregivers and infants, from the moment of birth, reciprocally accommodate patterns of behaviors. The infant develops various innate competencies through approaches from a caregiver, creates interaction patterns, and begins to appropriate culture through imitation (Kaye, 1982; Tomasello, 1999). The relation between the particularity and universality that characterizes caregiver-infant interaction systems, however, has yet to be analyzed.

専守防衛（せんしゅぼうえい）とは、第二次世界大戦後の日本で練られている軍事戦略である。戦略守勢とも言う。

専守防衛は戦後の日本（自衛隊）の基本的な軍事戦略とされてきた。自衛隊の基本戦略、戦術思想の根幹を成している。防衛上の必要があっても相手国に先制攻撃を行わず、侵攻してきた敵を自国の領域において軍事力（防衛力）を以って撃退する方針のことを意味する。

その内容は、全般的な作戦において、相手の攻撃を受けてから初めて軍事力を行使すること、その程度は自衛に必要最低限に範囲にとどめ、相手国の根拠地への攻撃（戦略攻勢）を行わないこと、自国領土またはその周辺でのみ作戦することなどである。戦力不保持・交戦権否認を規定する日本国憲法第9条と整合性を持った受動的な軍事戦略とされている（もっとも、同条の解釈については種々の議論がある）。

　学生たちがスキー合宿に行って休講になったので、ヒマができた。３時間。たまには随筆というものを書いてみよう。英語でヒマをつぶすのを"to kill time"というのを実践する。

　カミュの『異邦人』で独房生活を送るムルソーは「時を殺す術」を身につける。自分が暮らしていた部屋の家具を思い出す。そしてその引き出しの中の一つひとつを開けて点検する。中身をリストアップして、何時間もかけて、一覧表を作る作業に没頭する。このおかげで、刑務所の中で優に百年は生きることができると思うようになってくるのだ…。そんな風に自分の周りを見てみたい。

　随筆はいつも書いているじゃないか、という人がいるだろうが、僕の多くの文章は筆が向くまま気が向くままといった「随筆」には当たらない。『大辞林』の定義だと「見聞したことや心に浮かんだことなどを、気ままに自由な形式で書いた文章。また、その作品。漫筆。随録。随想。エッセー。」ということになる。確かに心に浮かんだことを書いてはいるが、論文調だし、目的地にまっすぐ向かうＪＲの特急みたいな文章が多い。目的地って僕の場合、最後のオチなのだが…。

　誰でも知っていることだが、英語の"essay"というのはフランス語の"essais"から来ていてこれは"essayer"（試みる）から生まれた言葉だ。モンテーニュが創始者といってもよく、自分の判断を試みるという意味で使われた。当初は古代の賢人の本の読書ノートだったが、自分の言動から世界のいろいろな事象について判断を試みるようになった。"Que sais-je?"はクセジュ文庫にもなったが、「我何をか知るや」という問いかけであった。

　ＯＥＤには従って次のような定義になっている。

ある特定の主題、あるいはある主題の一部に関して適度な長さを持った作文。本来は書き終えることの欠如、「不規則で、消化されていない作品」を意味していたが、今では範囲においては限定されているが、文体では多かれ少なかれ念入りに練られた作文のことをいう。

　また、木原茂は『文章表現十二章』（三省堂）の中で「さまざまな事がらに対する自分の判断の試み」であるといい、「日常生活で、体験したこと、心にハッと思ったことをそのまま書いて、読者に喜びや楽しみを与えたり、考えさせたりすることを目的とする」とまとめている。

　でも、ここで書かれていることはフランス語で"causeries"とでもいえばいいような「文芸閑談」に相当するものだ。

　正確にはエッセイとコラムと随筆と雑文とコーズリーとは違うのだが、どう違うか分からないし、そんなことを気にするのは暇な人だと思う。

車の乗り心地も、少しは変わってきますが、気持ちの良さは車の乗り心地以上に良くなります。
男性にも女性にも、カッコイイ車にあこがれる人は結構います。

※これからする話は、信じられないかも知れませんが、まったくの実話です。
私が実践してきた正真正銘の不動産投資方法の極意です。

「う～ん。全然ダメです。まったくいい収益アパートが見つかりません。やっぱ、もう遅いんですかね・・・」

収益不動産投資のセミナーで知り合った彼から、また暗いメールがきた。

この人（藤川さん）不動産投資でリタイアするのを決意したのは良いが、なかなか結果が出ない。

彼は、サラリーマンをするかたわら、頭金をためて、その頭金で収益不動産に投資していた。
収益不動産投資はもう既に３年のキャリアと２棟を保有している。木造と鉄骨の高利回り物件だ。
でも次が続かない。
高利回り物件が出ては人に先を越され、
買い付け申し込みが通ったはいいが、融資付けに奔走しては断られまくっていた。
セミナーに出まくっても本を読んで勉強しても効果は無かった。

藤川さん「うっ、うっ、また銀行に断られました・・・」

定期的に飲み会を開催し、顔を合わせた私は、
そんな彼の姿を毎回、目の当たりにしていたので、さすがに可哀想になった。
私も人の子である。

今まで、頑なにヒミツにしてきた。収益不動産の投資方法を伝授することにしたのである。

わたし　「いや全然そんなことないよ。」
「私自身５ヶ月でリタイアできる実績を上げたし、北岸さんは投資方法を伝授したら

藤川さん「え、それじゃ物件が絞られすぎじゃ、！？」

わたし　「じゃあ、次に△△△のポイントでさらにフィルターをかけて。」

わたし　「うん。実証済みだからね。」
騙されたと思って、１回やってみて。物件なんていくらでも出てくるから。」

実は、ポイントを絞れば絞るほど物件の探索は容易だし、物件も出てくる。

わたし　「利回りは重要だけど、そんなんで物件を絞っちゃだめだよ」
「だってリタイアしたいんでしょ。リタイアするにはね、
○○○○○○○はしちゃだめなんだよ。次の融資で問題になるからね」
↑ ここ、かなり時間をかけて説明

藤川さん「えー。いままでいろんな本を読んできたけど、利回り命って書いてあるけど、
誰も言ってくれないじゃない。そんなこと。
本にも高利回り物件を探せって書いてあるでしょ！」

わたし　「それでリタイアできそう？　キャッシュたまってる？」

藤川さん「う～ん。リタイアまで１０年かかりそう・・・１０年で今の物件の返済が終わるから。」

わたし　「１０年待てるんだったら、それでいいんじゃない？
僕は待てなかったけど、人それぞれだからね。」

藤川さん「ただ、今の物件、古いんで毎年かかる修繕費がキャッシュフローを食ってて、
思うようにキャッシュがたまらないんです。あと、１０年たったらどうなるんだろう。
すぐにでもリタイアしたいなぁ・・・
それに本当にだれも、そんなことを教えてくれないんですけど。」

わたし　「う～ん。なんでみんな言わないんだろうね。気がついてないのかな？
僕自身が、ひっかかった罠だし、僕のように短期でたくさん物件を買っている人も
少ないし、意外と誰も知らないのかもね。」

わたし　「あと、本気でリタイアしたいんだったら、
現在持っている物件の収益試算方法はこの方式でやってみて」
↑ ここ２番目に、かなり時間をかけて説明

藤川さん「えー。これで計算すると１棟はキャッシュフローが赤字じゃないですか。
実際は黒字ですよ。だいたい、この物件の利回りは１５％越えているんですよ！」

わたし　「利回りなんて、あんまり関係ないよ。
実はこの計算方法で赤字だから、銀行は融資しないんだよ。
要は銀行は、藤川さんはファイナンシャルインテリジェンスが高いと思ってないんだな。
わるいけど、この１棟は売却したほうが融資がつきやすいよ。
もう１棟もキャッシュフローがほとんどゼロだから持っている意味が無いね。」

そして、２ヵ月後・・・・・・

藤川さん「１棟は売却しました。もう１棟も売却の方向で動いています。
こんなアパートが見つかったんですがどうでしょう？」

わたし　「結構いいじゃない。」

パソコンを立ち上げて検討すること５分・・・・・・

わたし　「うん、ｘｘ銀行でフルローンがつくから、融資を持ちかけて。」

藤川さん「え、都銀なんて相手してくれないですよ。もっと実績を上げないと。
だいたい、なんで融資金額がわかるんですか？」

わたし　「逆なんだよ。今までは下にもぐった検討ばかりしてるから、
都銀は相手にしてくれないんだな。恋愛と同じで、 相手の気持ちを考えずに、
俺はこれが欲しい。なんていっても相手にしてくれる銀行は限られる。
相手の気持ちがわかれば融資自体はカンタンだよ。」

 

そして、５ヵ月後・・・・・・
藤川さんはどうなったのか？

結果は、言わなくてもお分かりだと思います。
その後、藤川さんが飲み会で暗い顔をすることはありませんでした。

いつもどおり月をまたぐと７，０００，０００円以上も、口座に振込みがあります！！

不動産投資って、こうして海を眺めている間にも、続々と資産が増えているんです。

本人が海を眺めている。その間にも収益不動産はガンガン稼いでくれる。
どう？いいでしょう。こんな生活も・・・

「うらやましいけど、私には無理ですよ。不動産投資方法なんて知らないし・・・」

確かに、不動産投資で独立するなら、
「とびっきりの物件情報と銀行への特別なパイプがないと・・・」って、普通なら思いますよね。
私自身も、最初は、物件探しと融資付けでかなり苦戦したので、その気持ちはよく分かります。

でもね・・・

物件探しや融資付けって、そんなに悩むようなことでもなかったんです。
ただ、いまどき物件情報なんて、周りを見渡したって、そんなに転がっているものじゃありません。

でもね、実は全然問題ないんです。
物件情報は実は作るんです。

これ重要なんで繰り返します。

物件情報を持ってないなら、物件は作り出すんです。

事実、私は、いまでこそ７棟という、そこそこの数の物件を運営していますが、
物件がひとりでに転がって入ってきた経験なんてありませんし、ひとりでに儲かった記憶すらありません。

つまり・・・

 

あるポイントで物件情報を探せば、すぐには情報がなくても、情報は入ってきます。
情報さえ入ってくる流れをつくれば、あとは収益の上がる物件のふるいにかけるだけです。
その発掘方法と、銀行の融資付けの方法さえ知ってしまえば、収益物件を探し購入するのは至って簡単なことなんです。

恐らく、あなたが今、「不動産投資で成功したい！」と思いながらも、初めの一歩を踏み出すことができないのは、下記のような方法で、不動産投資を始めようとしているからではないでしょうか？

1. 頭金から逆算して、買える金額の物件のめどを出す。（５０００万円以下では？）
2. その金額の範囲内から利回りのいい物件を探す。利回りは高いほどいい。（１５％以上では？）
3. 物件が見つかったら、収益などを計算して、購入しても良いか熟慮する。（１０年後はバラ色だ！）
4. 購入しても良いと判断したら銀行に融資付けに奔走する。

どうです？違いますか？
もう一つ追加するなら、いつも融資金額が思ったほど伸びず、頭金が不足して購入できない。悔しい思いをしていませんか？

ズバリ言いましょう。
あなたが、このセオリーで、不動産投資をし、サラリーマンをリタイアようと思っているなら、時間のムダです。なぜなら、このセオリーだと、１０件収益物件をあたって、やっと１つ購入。次の物件購入に向けて頭金の貯金を開始する。

リタイアできるのはいつのことかと計算しては、ため息ばかりついていました。

先にも申し上げましたが、物件情報なんて、周りを見渡したって、
簡単に見つかるものではありません。

そして、ようやく探し出した物件情報にあたってみる。
しかし、既に買われていた、融資がつかない・・・

だから、皆、嫌になって、すぐに諦めちゃう。

「不動産投資なんてサラリーマンには無理だよ・・・」ってお決まりの文句を言ってね。

「じゃ～、どうすれば良いんですか？」

ご安心を。
実は、超スピードの不動産投資成功法があるんです。

　ところで、梅雨の後は暑い夏がやってきます。開放的な季節が到来ですね。

　毎年大勢の人たちが山に海に行楽に出かけられます。あなたも何か予定は
ありますか？

　私は今年も仕事と勉強会の予定がたくさん入っていて、まだ休暇を取る予定が
立たないんです。でもまあ、何とか都合をつけてどこかに行ってきます。

　去年は奈良の三輪山に登ってきました。三輪山は、山全体がご神体だそうです。
あちこちにお供え物として卵と日本酒が置いてありました。なんでも蛇が守り神だ
そうですよ。

　実は、去年の夏は海に行こうとしたんです。妻が大の虫嫌いで、虫がたくさん
いる山は止めた方がいいだろう、と思ったんですよ。

　「海なら山に比べればまだ虫は少ないから、海にしようか？」

　妻は、ちょっと困った顔をして「海かあ、、、。海は苦手なのよね、、、ここ数年は
特に」と言います。

　「え？昔スイミングスクールに通っていたから泳ぐのは得意だ、って言ってたじゃん。
何か不都合な事でもあるの？」

　「あっわかった！肌が弱いから日焼けするとヒリヒリするって言ってたよね」

　「まあ、それもそうなんだけど、、、。水着に着替えなきゃいけないんでしょ？」

　ここまできてようやくわかりました。妻は水着に着替えたり、薄着になることを
嫌がっていたのです。

　妻は私から見ても中肉中背の体型です。体重も標準ですが、ここ数年は特に
水着になることが苦手になってきているようです。

　私自身は何が何でも海じゃなきゃヤダ、というわけでもないので、妻の意向どおり
山にでかけることにしました。

　衣替えは６月からですが、これから本格的な夏になるともっと薄着になりますね。

そうすると、身体のシルエットが見えやすくなります。ノースリーブやＴシャツなど
二の腕を見せる洋服も着る機会が増えますので、体型がどうしてもわかりやすく
なってしまいます。

　夏がやってくる前に、ダイエットを始める女性も多いと聞きます。あなたはどうですか？

　ところで私は現役の管理栄養士として、病院や保健所で何百人もの方に
食事相談をしてきました。もちろん減量に関する相談もたくさんしたことがあります。

　そこで、長年の経験を小冊子にまとめたんです。体重コントロールにお悩みの
みなさんに少しでも役立てばいい、と思って。

　せっかくですから、ちょっとダイエットに関するコラムを書いてみますね。

　やせるためのプログラムをまとめたＰＤＦ小冊子にも書きましたが、サプリメントに
よるダイエットの場合でも、その減量作用を、より効果的にする工夫が必要です。

　そもそも、これまでのダイエット法は「"だけ"ダイエット」（私が勝手に名づけました）が
ほとんどでした。

　「リンゴ」「ゆで卵」「グレープフルーツ」「キャベツ」「ビスケット」、、、。　

　それぞれは、一定の効果はあります。ダイエットはやはり、ツラいですよね。そんな
つらい期間は出来るだけ短いほうがいいじゃないですか。たとえそれが、本当の
ダイエットとは異なるとしても。

　そういう意味では、こういった特定の食べ物だけを食べるダイエットは、賛成できます。

　ですが、こういった単独のものを食べるダイエットは、長い期間行なうのはおすすめ
できません。

　どうしたって栄養不足になりますし、そもそも「○○ならお腹いっぱい食べてもいい！」
なんてダイエットは、お腹いっぱい食べる習慣は変わらないじゃないですか。

　だから、そのダイエットを止めてしまうと、とたんに「もとどおり」って人が多いです。

　そこで、ちょっと考えて欲しいんです。そもそも「やせる」ってどういうことか知っています？

　ちょっと専門的になりますが、「やせる」ということは、体内に標準以上にたまった
脂肪を減らすことを言います。

　ですから、「やせることは、体重を減らすこと」は、１００パーセント正解ではありません。
脂肪が減って、その結果として体重が減るのです。

　たとえば、ボクシング。最近は女子ボクシングも出てきてます。Ｋ−１人気の影響も
あって、なかなか盛況のようです。

　そのボクシングですが、試合前に選手が減量しますよね。でもちょっと考えてください。
もうすでに選手たちは、激しい練習で体内にたまった脂肪なんかほとんどないんですよ。

　それでも、契約体重がありますから、その体重にならないと失格になります。試合が
できません。

　これ以上減らす脂肪がないのに、どうやって体重を減らすのか？

　ごぞんじのかたもいらっしゃるでしょうが、彼ら（彼女ら）は、水分制限をします。
水分をほとんど取らないようにして、それで体重を減らすんです。

　場合によっては、味噌汁も飲まず、歯磨きする時にも歯磨き粉だけで歯を磨く。

　激しい練習で汗をたくさんかいた後に、さらにサウナに長時間入って汗をかく。

　そうして徹底的に水分をとらないようにするそうです。

　ですから、この場合はやせたのではありません。体重が減ったということです。

　体内の水分が一時的に減った結果、体重計の針が動いただけのこと。
水分を取れば体重は元通りになります。　

　第一、身体にはあまりよくないですよね。　

　数年前に、中国製の「やせる薬」を飲んだ人が、内臓疾患になった事件が新聞に
載ったことを覚えている人もいらっしゃるでしょう。

　あれは、「やせる薬｣の中に、身体に害をもたらす成分が含まれていたんです。
その薬を飲んだ人は、その成分で体調を崩されました。

　体調を崩して病気になれば、誰でもやせます。でも、それは「やせる」のではなく
「やつれる」「病気」という状態です。

　「やせる」ということは「水分が減る」ことや「やつれる」ことではなく、
体内に必要以上にたまった脂肪を減らすと言うことです。

　やっぱり、脂肪を減らして、結果的に体重を減らしたいですよね。

　もちろん健康的に。そして、できればカンタンに、それほどツラくなく。

　また、体重が減るのも大事ですが、やはりスリムな体型になりたいですね。

　一般に販売されている洋服は、太っている体型専用のデザインはまだまだ
少ないものです。

　値段も少々高くなってますし、、、。

　ファッションには、あまりあれこれ気兼ねすることなくオシャレをしたいものですね。

　その状態をどうやって、忙しい毎日の中で実行すればいいのでしょう？

取り組みを行なえばいいのでしょうか？そして続けるための工夫は？

　食事療法？もちろん必要です。運動？もちろん！これまでに様々なダイエットを
経験したことがある人なら、よくおわかりのことでしょう。

　では、必要なあなたの必要なカロリー（エネルギー）をご存知ですか？

　カロリー（エネルギー)を知っていたとして、何をどれくらい食べればそのカロリー
（エネルギー)をとることが出来ますか？

　運動量はどうでしょう？やせるためにどんな運動をどの程度すればいいのでしょう？
毎日大汗をかいて走ればいいのでしょうか？

　現役の管理栄養士である私は、様々なダイエット法を研究しました。そして、多くの
ダイエット法が基本的な食事や運動について十分説明していませんでした。

　私は職業柄、基本的な食事や運動について熟知しています。

　今回ダイエット法を公開するにあたり、まずは基本的な食事法や運動について説明し、
誰でもカンタンに実行できるように工夫しました。

　次に、多くの人がダイエットしてやせた後、リバウンドしてしまうことを何とかしたいと
思いました。

　私が以前病院に勤めていた時、肥満外来に通院されたり、肥満改善のため入院された
人々に栄養相談を行なってきました。

　みなさんとても熱心に食事療法や運動について学ばれ、実行されました。

　ですが、目標体重になって退院されたり通院をやめられると、多くの人が栄養相談を
行なう前の体重近くまでふとってしまったんです。

　なぜ多くの人がリバウンドするのでしょう？

意志が弱いから？習慣を変えられないから？

　ポイントは「あなたがあなた自身をどのように考えているか」ということ。

I got back into Philadelphia late last night after a lengthy delay getting out of Quebec (plane was late). Somehow the extended stay was welcomed – it was an awfully nice trip, very well rounded with lots of different activities. Staying at the Ice Hotel was incredible, and I must say I grew very found of Quebec City's winter vibe, feeling more like a village than a small city. The friendliness of the town was probably the most impressive – the French Canadians sure are pleasant and the cold does not discourage their level of activity in the least. Saturday night, we took advantage of our last-night-of-the-trip energy buzz and stayed up until 5:30 a.m., an evening at a "rave" in an igloo. Two things have turned my interest from cautious to full-blown love regarding upcoming drama Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, and now I can safely say that I have super high hopes for this show. First, the long preview was released, and it's pretty feckin' awesome.

Sadly, the 10-minute teaser has since been taken down and I can't find an additional link, so I'm just posting screencaps I'd grabbed when it was still live, as well as another (short) teaser video. I'm sad that I can't show you how great that highlight preview was, but on the other hand it pretty much gave away most of Episode 1, and the drama's premiering in days anyway.

Suffice to say that the highlight reel gave a taste of mood, story, conflict, and now I feel confident that the drama is as raw and heart-tugging and full of youthful fervor as I hoped it would be. It actually makes me feel an emotion that I can only describe as jjan: sad, a little bit painful, but in the best way.

When we make a few adjustments to account for some plant proteins being digested somewhat differently from animal proteins and for the amino acid mix in some plant proteins, we arrive at a level of 1 gram of protein per kilogram body weight (0.45 grams of protein per pound that we weigh).

Since vegans eat a variety of plant protein sources, somewhere between 0.8 and 1 gram of protein per kilogram would be a protein recommendation for vegans. If we do a few calculations we see that the protein recommendation for vegans amounts to close to 10% of calories coming from protein. [For example, a 79 kg vegan male aged 25 to 50 years could have an estimated calorie requirement of 2900 calories per day. His protein needs might be as high as 79 kg x 1 gram/kg = 79 grams of protein. 79 grams of protein x 4 calories/gram of protein = 316 calories from protein per day. 316 calories from protein divided by 2900 calories = 10.1% of calories from protein.] If we look at what vegans are eating, we find that between 10-12% of calories come from protein. This contrasts with the protein intake of non-vegetarians, which is close to 14-18% of calories.

11 things, hmm? I'm not sure there's an awful lot you guys don't know about me by this point! I will give it a go anyway.

1. While I don't read food or health blogs these days I did when I started blogging, and although I am unlikely to ever drink a kale smoothie I do credit them with encouraging me to try certain foods that I'd always been scared of or convinced I didn't like before. I'm not even talking about anything exotic: at the age of 24 I hadn't eaten a banana for 20 years! It was a textural issue rather than an eating disordered one, the texture made me feel squeamish and a bit sick. However, after a couple of months of reading about the bananas of various food bloggers I thought I would give it another chance. Even now I can't eat bananas "cold", they have to be heated up in some way – mashed up in porridge or cut in half, covered in peanut butter and microwaved. I know I'm odd.

2. In addition to my discomfort with bananas, I had also never tried peanut butter until 2009, and I only started drinking coffee last year. Late starter!

3. I spent the entire summer of 1999 lying on my sofa watching my brothers play Spyro the Dragon on the playstation. It seemed like the thing to do when I was 15.

4. Before the digestive problems of doom began I used to be able to out-curry all my friends. Vindaloo? What's the fuss all about?! Of course these days I can't eat anything with chilli in without suffering. Humph.

5. Other than hairdressers, I've never been to any sort of beauty professional/therapist. I've never had a make over, a manicure, pedicure, wax (erm, just no) or anything along those lines. I believe I may be missing some girl genes somewhere.

On 18 January of this year, in the face of EU pressure, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn agreed to review some of the fundamental changes his government has wrought on Hungarys constitutional framework. But what powers have the EU in the face of democratically implemented constitutional change? The answer is: quite a lot.

The European Commission, the executive of the EU, has commenced legal proceedings against Fidesz (the party which currently holds government in Hungary) to challenge the three pieces of legislation enacted under the new Constitution they see as the greatest threat to democracy in Hungary: those that affect, respectively, the independence of the judiciary, the Central Bank and the data affairs ombudsmen. It commenced these proceedings under the authority of Article 7(3) of the Treaty of the European Union, which allows the EC to act preventively in the event of a clear threat of a serious breach of the common values of the EU. The EU has given Orbns government a month to respond to the criticism and the EU Justice Commissioner, Viviane Reding, has said that only actual changes to the legislation in question, or their immediate suspension, will be able to accommodate the Commission's legal concerns.

The EC considers legislation allowing Cabinet ministers to participate in Central Bank meetings, requiring the meetings' agendas to be sent to government representatives in advance and obliging members of the Central Bank to sign an oath of loyalty, violates Articles 127(4) and 130 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU. It points to the compulsory retirement age of judges as an infringement of Council Directive 2000/78/EC, which prevents discrimination in the workplace. This is interesting, because other EU member states require their judges to retire by a certain age. For example, Lord Sumption, the newest member of the UK Supreme Court, will be required to retire upon his 70^th birthday. Compulsory judicial retirement is also commonplace outside the EU: for example, it has applied to every appointee to a federal court in Australia since 1977. The ECs real issue is likely to be that the new Constitutions lowering of the retirement age will force around 300 judges to retire in the coming year. The new President of the newly-created National Justice Office, Tunde Hando, is a family friend of Prime Minister Orbn and the wife of an influential Fidesz politician. Ms Hando has the power to appoint new judges and it is not unreasonable to expect that these appointments will have a distinctly partisan flavour.

The EC also challenges the decision to create a New Data Protection Office, throwing out the current Commissioner and enabling members of the Executive to fire the new supervisor for arbitrary reasons. There are numerous EU Law authorities that defend the independence of data protection, as well as EU case law that establishes that data protection supervisory authorities have to remain free from any external influence.

In 1951…a major storm dumped 10.1 inches of snowfall at Stapleton Airport. Most of the snow…8.3 inches…fell on the 29th. Cold arctic air accompanied the snow. Several temperature records were set…including record low maximum temperatures of 4 on the 28th and 4 below zero on the 29th and record low temperatures of 12 below zero on the 29th and 24 below zero on the 31st. Temperatures were below zero for 45 consecutive hours.

In 1956…snowfall totaled 5.5 inches at Stapleton Airport where east winds gusted to 32 mph on the 28th.

In 1972…cold west winds buffeted Boulder. A wind gust to 92 mph was recorded at the National Bureau of Standards…while a gust to 76 mph was measured in downtown Boulder. Two mobile homes were overturned in Boulder. Other damage was minor. Northwest winds gusted to 40 mph at Stapleton International Airport on the 28th.

In 1987…strong winds buffeted the Front Range foothills and spread east over the plains. The highest wind recorded was 99 mph on the 29th at both the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder and the Rocky Flats plant south of Boulder. Wind gusts in excess of 80 mph were common. A northwest wind gust to 54 mph was recorded at Stapleton International Airport on the 28th with a gust to 41 mph on the 29th. Planes were damaged at both the Boulder and Jefferson County Airports. Hangars were also damaged at Jefferson County Airport. Many windows were broken…signs toppled…and trees downed. A brick wall was blown onto parked cars in Lakewood. A couple of houses in Lakewood were unroofed…while falling trees damaged others. Two people were injured by flying debris in Lakewood and Golden. Total insured damage along the Front Range was 10 million dollars making the wind storm the second most costly on record in Colorado at the time.

In 1995…deepening upslope winds along the eastern foothills on the 28th gave way to periods of heavy snow during the night and early morning hours of the 29th. Snow fell to a depth of 8 inches in both Golden and Boulder with up to a foot in the foothills. Only 1.9 inches of snow fell at Stapleton International Airport…where east winds gusted to 22 mph on the 28th.

In 2001…heavy snow fell across metro Denver. The heaviest snowfall occurred from just south of Denver to around Castle Rock. Snow amounts included: 12 inches east of Parker…9 inches near Elizabeth and in Littleton…8 inches near Castle Rock and in Parker…and 7 inches in Aurora. Snowfall totaled 6.0 inches at the site of the former Stapleton International Airport.

In 1887…winds were strong and gusty for three days in the city. West and northwest winds were sustained to 56 mph on both the 28th and 29th and to 44 mph on the 30th. Temperatures warmed to a high of 57 degrees on the 29th.

In 1900…northwest winds were sustained to 45 mph with an extreme velocity of 46 mph.

In 1914…this was the last day of 60 consecutive days with snow cover of one inch or more in Denver. This third longest period of snow cover on record began with the record breaking snow and blizzard on December 1-5… 1913 when a total of 45.7 inches of snow fell in downtown Denver. Additional snowfall during December and January prolonged the event. Snow depth on the ground to the nearest tenth of an inch was measured once daily at 6:00 pm MST.

In 1927…west winds were sustained at 40 mph with gusts to 42 mph.

In 1942…heavy snowfall totaled 6.2 inches in downtown Denver. North winds were sustained to 17 mph.

In 1965…strong winds occurred in Boulder for the third consecutive day. Only limited minor damage was reported. Northwest winds gusted to 40 mph at Stapleton International Airport.

In 1984…highs winds in and near the foothills produced wind gusts as high as 71 mph in Boulder. A plane was flipped over at Jefferson County Airport and damaged beyond repair. In Lakewood…two construction trailers were damaged by the gusts. North winds gusted to only 38 mph at Stapleton International Airport.

In 1990…gale to hurricane force winds gusts raked the foothills. Wind gusts of 50 to 90 mph were common in Boulder County. A peak wind of 94 mph was clocked at Table Mesa in southwest Boulder. Scattered power outages and minor property damage were reported. West winds gusted to 46 mph at Stapleton International Airport.
